ReTweet Revolution

“A visual exploration of Twitter conversation threads in the days following the Iranian Elections of June 2009 “ By: Gilad Lotan
“Retweet Revolution” visualizes the 372 most popular tweets over the span of 10 days regarding the recent Iranian elections. The interactive applet allows users to see a comparison of the relative tweet popularity, as well as the transformations and networks of retweets. The result is an activist narrative, facilitated by a simple yet empowering technology.
Also, I came across an interesting article which gives some further info on twitter visualizaitons during the recent Iranian elections.

This is an interactive data visualization on New York Times – visualizing the time consumption of people in groups. First of all, the stacked shapes of graph and simple buttons attracted me to easily get involved – visual attraction for interaction which I think very important. Second, the basic interactive actions – the transition between groups – work smoothly which made me stay longer. Especially, delicate and interesting detail information tracking the mouse cursor makes more exploration of this graph. It is good way to reveal the detail and specific data by mouse-over than mouse-click, layering the information with user interaction. In terms of visualization, and Data-Ink, I think this follows fundamental principles well, the grid on the background is dim enough to not disturbing my eyes from concentrating on main data elements. It is an intriguing interactive data visualization work, not that complicated, simple interactions with interesting stories.

Space-time paths of women of color in Portland, Oregon - the vertical dimension represents time.
I came upon the concept of “time geography” while working on my major studio final project first semester (“This Post-Geographic Life”). Geographer Torsten Hagerstrand developed the concept to stress the importance of time in daily human activities. Mei-Po Kwan applied Hagerstrand’s space-time path to feminist geography, showing the disparate effects on gender on one’s daily travel patterns.
*Edit: Here’s a less dry data visualization. Flags of the world : What They Really Stand For.

I am interested in seeing the systemic and connected nature of the world. Below is a data visualization created to show the dynamic nature of ecosystems. Users can change the balance of this system with interactive sliders. It shows how phytoplankton, zooplankton, decay and nitrogen effect the population dynamics of an this ecosystem. In this visualization you can see that increasing nitrogen to the system positively effects P growth, which increases Z growth which in turn [both] effect decay rate which feeds back into nitrogen rates. This data visual is driven by different models, based on research done by various organizations. There is a link below so feel free to play god!
